History
In 1995 STARS evolved from the Friends of Noarlunga College Theatre (which started in 1985) due to a change of theatre management.
With a change of name came a change in direction and, despite being without a base, STARS began to promote and support development of the cultural environment in the southern region.
In the year 2000, STARS was given the opportunity of leasing Waverley Homestead from the City of Onkaparinga, and it has been the STARS base since that time.

IN MEMORY OF OLIVE READER 1936-2007
Olive Reader was the Founder and long term President of Friends of
the Noarlunga Theatre and then STARS. She was also the instigator, together
with the Helpmann Academy, of the annual Keith Michell Award named after
the famous South Australian actor.
Olive was very active in the southern community over many years and
was the recipient of several awards. These included a Commonwealth of
Australia Recognition Award for Senior Australians (2002); the Mclaren
Vale Regional Award (2003); Rotary Club of McLarent Vale Community Service
Award jointly with husband Brian (2005); Certificate of Recognition
for Outstanding Service to Arts in the Southern region from the SA Parliament
and an Australian Day Citizen Award (2006).
Sadly, Olived passed away in June 2007, but her hard work and caring nature will never be forgotten, nor the integral part she played in the formation of STARS.
